The poet shares a moving dialogue with the bells in the tower of the Basílica de la Merced in Santiago de Chile. Their sound speaks to the traveller’s wounded heart, and he, in turn, lets out the confession of his own grieving, which he leaves there as farewell when the moment comes to continue the journey.

시인은 칠레의 산티아고에 있는 메르세드 예배당의 종탑에 있는 종들과 얘기를 나누고 있다.

종소리는 방랑자의 상처입은 마음에 얘기하고,

그는 자신의 슬픔의 고백을 끄집어 내고 있다.

때가 와서 다시 방랑을 떠나야 할 때 그걸 거기에 작별인사로 남겨둔다.

Yo no sé por qué extraña razón, encontré, Carillón de Santiago que está en la Merced, en tu son inmutable la voz de mi andar de viajero incurable que quiere olvidar.   Milagro peregrino que un llanto combinó. Tu canto, como yo, se cansa de vivir y ruega sin tener dónde morir.   Penetraste el secreto de mi corazón, porque oyendo tu son la nombré sin querer... Y es así como hoy sabés quién era y qué fue, ¡la que busco llorando y... que no encontraré!   Mi vieja confidencia te dejo, Carillón.
